Parisian singer/songwriter/house hero Sébastien Tellier burst upon the dance music scene in 1999 when he licensed a track to a compilation issued by the revered Source imprint. Labelmates Nicolas Godin and Jean-Benoît Dunckel of Air swiftly signed him to their Record Makers label and released Tellier’s debut album, L’incroyable Vérité, in 2001.
Thanks in part to a clever pre-release campaign with U.S. hipster retailer American Apparel, Tellier’s profile in the States rose in 2008 when the title track from his second album, Sexuality, which was produced by Daft Punk’s Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, became something of an international phenomenon on the dance floor. Sexuality Remix is overflowing with choice rerubs of songs from his most recent effort. To accomplish this feat, Tellier taps an international cast of characters — Berlin’s Boyz Noize, Melbourne’s Midnight Juggernauts, and Montreal’s A-Trak, as well as French artists Hypnolove, Moulinex, and Breakbot — to put a new spin on things. The vibes are good, the beats are big, and the interpretations take the original versions to the next level. Crank this one up, and it’ll likely become the soundtrack to your summer 2010.
