Confused Disko

Before Metronomy puts out their next full-length, right between touring their native U.K. & the States, Joseph Mount's electro-synth act releases Not Made For Love EP.  While last year's Nights Out embraced the higher, dance-weird side of electronica, Not Made For Love introduces a more indietronic side to the band - as well as a slew of remixes.


There are three original pieces on Not Made, the title track, "Do the Right Thing" and "What Do I Do Now?".  "Not Made For Love" showcases a sweeter, more stripped side of Metronomy, but from there the synths get turned up.  The synth-choral of "Right Thing" has a certain eighties feel to it, but "Do Now?" goes way synthed (reminiscent of Black Moth Super Rainbow - QRO live review).  Mount is known for doing his own remixes on the work of others, but for the rest of Not Made, the tables are turned, with remixes of all three original tracks.  Most interesting of them are probably Alalal's remix of "Not Made For Love", taking the piece to grander, echoing levels, and Silver Columns' remix of "What Do I Do Now?", delivering a unique ‘diva of the future' feel.

Electronica is a genre that demands continued change - the same synth note or rhythm sounds the exact same, every time, thus you have to keep doing something new with it.  So it's good that Metronomy are branching out - and letting us know.
