Confused Disko

6th Borough Project return to Instruments Of Rapture to deliver up their 3rd release for the Scottish label. “Part 5” delivers up 3 sublime disco cuts, which I guess is what we have come to expect from the production duo of Craig Smith & Graeme Clark (aka the label owner, aka “The Revenge”).


The crackling vinyl starts with a cooled down edit of Starvue’s “Body Fusion” entitled “Slow Down Baby”… and that is exactly what the Scottish duo do… they slow it right down (baby). They grab a matching vocal snippet from the original and use it as the building block for a mid tempo disco chugger. The vocal filters in and out delaying across the stereo field as strings, guitars and percussive elements build and build and build. Finally the track gets to its epicentre, pulling in more strings which make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up whilst dropping some more of the sultry funked out vocals. All in all a great track.

Track 2, which in the humble opinion of this Sccucci writer, is the gem in this particular jewellery shop is entitled “Closer”. This is not the first time Celi’s “Closer Closer” has been cut up and pasted together again, the first being an edit by Marcel Chapman on the Discopush imprint entitled “The Opening Theme”, but it is probably the best. The 6th borough project boys know the meaning of anticipation, a 3 minute build up of drums, congas and splashes of bass guarantee madness on the dance floor when this track finally drops. The track is perfectly set up for a long mix to turn the heat up on your DJ set. Again, glorious strings are the order of the day, complimenting the South American disco divas vocals.

Stratus Quo is the finale of this EP, a bassy disco funk fusion affair consisting of some chopped up pianos, some solid drums tangled together with some beautiful synth rises and stabs. Probably the most up-tempo of the 3 tracks and a great way to tie up this vinyl.
